CAC Living Water Daily Devotional 8th November 2021 – Never Allow Success Hinder Your Progress

Topic: Never Allow Success Hinder Your Progress

Text: Philippians 3:12-16

[12]Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

[13]Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

[14]I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

[15]Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.

[16]Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.

Memorise: Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead. (Philippians 3:13).

Each success we have is supposed to be part of our progress in life. However, success can become an enemy of progress, if one chooses not to press forward after an experience of success. When God gives you ability to achieve something in your life, it is not ideal to set it as the end of the road. Infact, success is not a destination; it is a journey. The more you achieve, the more you can achieve in life. You can accomplish almost any plan  you have for yourself in God,  if you persist long and work hard enough. Nothing can stop you to progress and hit the mark. The only one who can stop you is yourself.

Apostle Paul is a biblical example of pressing forward to achieve our God-given goals in life. He finished well and strong when he was still alive (2. Tim. 4:7). He was able to finish well and strong because of the three principles he applied in his life, as stated in our memory scripture. The first principle is taken from his statement, I do not count myself to have apprehend.

No matter what you have achieved in life, never think that you have arrived. That is called COMPLACENCY, and it kills progress, fast.

Moreover, Paul says but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind.... The principle of continuous success here is, never concentrate your attention on your past success(es), no matter how huge it (they) may be. A wise saying has it that the house yet to be built would be more glamorous than the one already built.

Lastly, you must learn to reach forward to those things that are ahead of you. You can do this if you have already set feasible and God-given goals for your life. The truth you must know is that the key to success is setting goals and getting yourself ready to pay the price of accomplishing them. According to Apostle Paul, you must always press forward in life to move from achievement to achievement in  every area of your life. (Phil. 3:14).

PRAYER POINTS:

1. I stand against the spirit working against my success and promotion in life, in Jesus'name.

2. I am pressing on to my promised land, with the help of the Holy Spirit, in Jesus'name.

3. Mention our aged fathers/mothers in prayer that they would finish well and strong in the Lord.
